"A Moment in Time" is an interactive ceramic and video installation that I made for my thesis show in Bezalel Academy of Art. The installation is composed of three main parts; a ceramic coil built sculpture representing a seed; 1.5 hour video of sunrise captured from Bosphorus in Istanbul; and a screen/ curtain made of approximately 12000 handmade porcelain beads. The indefinite quality of time evokes the concept of temporality; that everything is ever changing and nothing is forever. Amid the infinite change, transformation, and unpredictability, one can naturally feel the need of holding onto constants and repetitive actions.
“A Moment in Time’’ is a visual, tactile and audible space that challenges the perception of time and intends to stretch the way one experiences a stage of transition by using the elements of rituals mainly by connecting one with the everlasting in between stage that is a sunrise and a seed as a physical form of a beginning, of a moment of becoming in its potentiality. By taking ritualistic elements as a guidance on building the experience, the installation is intended to challenge the everyday flow and to take one into a journey to the beginning of the timeless cycles.
